I am a big fan of AssaultCube as I don’t need to buy because this software is free and open-source. I really respect these type of softwares. Now AssaultCube is one of the group game that can be played On-line and within LAN or with the bot. As I have two PCs I play them in both and in one of mine all the maps were pre-insatlled but in my another PC, I don’t had any extra maps installed. Now wherever someone used to load a map extra then the default maps provided by the default game, I could not play the game. The experience was same as like the I was on the game and again I was dying without any reason. Then I started the looking. The problem that I had was the File Permission which was the key feature on any Linux system and I like such type of system. You may had figured out the solution but I will still provide the solution for you people.
We have “/home/<username>/.assaultcube” named directory. After we open that directory, we find two folders > “Config” and “Packages”. And the packages folder with sub-folders needs the permission. Which comes to be the solution for the working of new maps and all the problem related to that. I have a pictorial solution for that. Hey, I tried for “gksu assaultcube” for the “root” access but that didn’t worked out for me, But if that runs in your PC that you are lucky that you should not bother managing all the permissions and play the game. If the game didn’t opened than I have a pictorial solution for that.
Ok I ran “nautilus” in root mode to have certain changes. After that navigate to the following directory: “/home/<username>/.assaultcube” . The folder is hidden so you need to goto> “View” Menu > click “Show Hidden Files” OR just press “Ctrl+H”.
After that open the directory and we get two folders and goto the “packages” folder’s properties. And then Click on “Permission” tab. Now manage the access permission for the owner as shown in snap below.
And never forgot for pressing “Apply Permission to Enclosed Files”. Cause we need to provide the same rights to the maps and all other settings.
